ABOUT: Don García, a seventeenth-century law student, returns to Madrid at the request of his father who is anguished to find out his son is a compulsive liar. Don Beltrán tries to get his son to marry before the truth about his son’s glaring fault comes to light. While his father is trying to find a suitable lady for him, Don García finds one on his own, a certain “Lucrecia,” or is it a certain Jacinta? You’ll have a hard time keeping a straight face as you listen to Don García’s unending repertoire of far-fetched tales in this unbelievable theatrical gem from Spain’s Golden Age, filled with multiple twists and turns and mix-ups told in perfect rhyming verse.

ABOUT: Two women. One man. Gabriela, a translator, and Marlene, a hair stylist, meet in a prison waiting area. After they engage in a casual, friendly conversation they discover that they are there to visit the same man. Laugh with this irreverent comedy and find out how these two women face adversity and find themselves in hysterical situations as they join forces to fundraise the amount of money required to bail out the man they both love. This staging features performances by Alma Mendoza and Gladys Ramos. A Rose By Any Other Name will be presented in Spanish with English supertitles.

WHO: Teatro de las Américas and Oxnard College presents A Night of Boleros, a Culinary Arts Program at Oxnard College and MusicaAtitudes production

ABOUT: Teatro de las Américas and Oxnard College inaugurate their 2015 Season of Concert-Dinners with A Night of Boleros. In this first edition enjoy a gourmet dinner from the Mexican gastronomic tradition prepared by students from the Culinary Arts Program at Oxnard College. After dinner, MusicaLatitudes, a local band, will entertain us with a repertoire of boleros made famous in Mexico. The band will be joined by Juan Gonzalez on vocals. Proceeds will benefit Teatro de las Américas.
